One of my fondest memories as a child, was doing crafts with my Mom and my sister. We had had a craft cupboard at kid-height, so we always had access to paper, colouring books, crayons, glue, stickers, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, etc.
In my opinion, crafts aren’t just for artsy parents and artsy children. Admittedly, I am artsy and my Mom is artsy, but my sister is not. Cindy loved crafting away, just as much as I did! It’s kind of interesting to think back now, about how we took different approaches. I liked to stay in the lines, pay attention to detail, colour things that were already outlined for me and basically follow instructions. My sister was more creative in a sense. She has an incredible imagination and it really showed when she was little! Cindy liked to create her own pictures from scratch, less detail and more “big picture”. I’m still a bit jealous of her imagination.
The craft I want to share with you today isn’t the type of craft that you can pull out of the craft cupboard and sit down at the kitchen table. This craft is a messy, sit in the bathtub kind of craft!
We’ll call this craft… “Goop”. That’s what my Mom called it 🙂 I love that this recipe is so easy to make with only 2 ingredients and I’m sure that you already have them in your kitchen.
So the deal is: this goop will feel SOLID when you try to grab a handful of it and within seconds, it will begin to liquefy and slip through your fingers! It’s SO cool! You can also use food colouring if you want to change the colour. This craft is also taste-safe for babies and toddlers. I wouldn’t let them eat handfuls of it, but if some gets into their mouths, it will be ok.
With toddlers and older kids, you can likely set this up on the kitchen table, know that it won’t end up all over the floor and walls. With Aurora, I put a towel down in the bathtub and we sat in there for this craft. Comfy and easy to wipe down.
